Founder & General Partner
James has over a decade of experience as a tech investor, including experience in both venture capital (Longworth) and public equities (Robert W. Baird & Co.). He has a track record of sourcing venture deals, generating successful exits, and working closely with portfolio companies to drive growth.
At Longworth James worked closely with Nilanjana Bhowmik to identify emerging segments with high returns potential, gain early access to startups, and develop the value-added expertise and network to win deals. James completed seven investments at Longworth and sourced Olapic (acquired by Monotype in 2016), JIBE and PLUMgrid.
James is experienced in working with portfolio companies to deliver real value – as a Board Observer at Olapic, he helped the company in its successful efforts to raise follow-on funding, gather competitive intelligence, and develop its operating budgets. James also worked directly with RapidMiner’s CEO and other executives to refine the company’s sales focus and product marketing strategy.
From 2006 to 2010, James was an equity research analyst at the investment bank Robert W. Baird & Co. where he covered the network equipment sector. At Baird, James worked on several high-profile technology IPOs including the IPO of Fortinet, a leading network security provider that now has a $6 billion market cap.
James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with Highest Honors and was in the top 3% of graduates. He is also a CFA charter holder.
